Feeding
Daily feeding of 30-60ml is recommended. 30ml is ideal for a pony or miniature horse, and 60ml is the recommended feeding rate for a larger horse in work or competition. If feeding for a specific purpose or desired results are not seen, feeding rate can be increased slightly. For more information visit our Feeding & Storage Guide.
Once opened, to maintain the quality and freshness of the oil keep in a cool, dark place and use within 3 months.
It is extremely important to note that due to the ingredients contained, this product MUST be shaken vigorously every day before feeding, to ensure that all of the ingredients are fully mixed, and all of the benefits of feeding are obtained. These powders do settle over time, so it is essential they are mixed for best effects.
FAQ
Q: How does this differ from the pure Flax Seed Oil?
A: The Bone & Joint Oil formula is sort of a 'next step up' from the Flax Seed Oil. We recommend the pure Flax Seed Oil for overall health and wellness, and then this formula if you're looking for something more targeted. It is ideal for horses in competition to provide a little more protection around the bones, joints, ligaments & connective tissue, or for those with joint concerns or recovering from injury .
Q: Which is better, the Bone & Joint Oil or the Bone & Joint Powder for horses?
A: One of our most commonly asked questions! We offer the products in two forms mainly because not everyone wants to feed an oil based supplement, or a vice versa with a powder based supplement! Ultimately the Bone & Joint Oil provides the best protection for bones and joints with the inclusion of the Flax Seed Oil and the powders together. Flax Seed Oil is one of the richest sources of Omega 3, and these can have anti-inflammatory benefits within the body. If the horse is in strenuous competition we do recommend you choose the Bone & Joint Oil for this reason. However, if the horse is in no work, or just light-moderate work, then the Bone & Joint Powder is a great cost-effective option for a bone and joint supplement fed all year round.
Q: Is Bone & Joint ok for young horses too?
A: Yes absolutely! This formula is ideal for younger horses too, particularly if they lead a very active lifestyle!
Q: I currently feed Hemp Seed Oil to my horse, what is the difference between Hemp Seed Oil and Flax Seed Oil?
A: Hemp Seed Oil provides high levels of Omega 6, some of which can be pro-inflammatory if fed in large quantities. Flax Seed Oil provides around 60% Omega 3, which is well documented to have anti-inflammatory properties. All animals require a healthy balance of both of these essential fatty acids, therefore Omega 3 rich Flax Seed Oil is very good in helping to maintain this balance.
